The Unexpected Success of a Lifelong Thinker

 Adrian Gabriel Dumitru

Writer, Bucharest, Romania
From failed attempts to publish his first book at 16 to becoming a prolific author later in life, Adrian Gabriel Dumitru’s writing journey is anything but typical. His work is grounded in self-therapy, reflection, and philosophical exploration. Based in Bucharest, Adrian has published dozens of books, though he still views himself more as a thinker than a conventional writer.

Q: What made you abandon writing after your first failure at 16?
A: After my first book about UFOs was rejected, I gave up. I didn’t see any way forward, so I left the idea of being a writer behind.

Q: Two decades later, you tried again. What changed?
A: I believed I would succeed the second time. I had a new book on online business success, but it failed as well. It took time for me to realize that chasing success was not the right approach.

Q: When did writing become about more than just success for you?
A: About five years after my second failure, I started writing again, but this time it was different. I was writing to understand myself. It became a form of self-therapy—analyzing my thoughts and ideas, helping me heal.

Q: How do you feel about having published so many books now?
A: It’s still hard to believe. I didn’t plan to publish tens of books. I just kept writing, and one day I realized I had all these books out there. It’s strange, but also satisfying.

Q: What advice would you give to someone who feels lost in their writing journey?
A: Write like you’re talking to yourself. Don’t worry about what others think. Be relaxed and honest. Writing should be a way to explore your own thoughts, not just about producing something perfect.
